The personal training account accumulates rights in euros for each active individual, but the rules of the game have changed since 2024. Mandatory out-of-pocket expenses, ceilings by certification category, and a tightened catalog: using your CPF to finance training now requires mastering several parameters even before clicking on “register”.
CPF Out-of-Pocket Expenses: An Unavoidable Cost to Anticipate
The decree of April 29, 2024, established a mandatory flat-rate contribution for each training action financed via the CPF. Initially set at 100 euros per training, this amount was increased to 103.20 euros on January 1, 2026, and then raised to 150 euros starting April 2, 2026 (decree n° 2026-234 of March 30, 2026).

This amount is added to the cost of the training if the CPF balance does not cover the total, or is directly deducted from the holder’s account even when the balance is sufficient. In practical terms, a training course priced at 2,000 euros uses the CPF balance for 1,850 euros and requires 150 euros of out-of-pocket expenses paid by credit card.
Before validating a file, it is therefore necessary to check if one can use the CPF account for expenses without out-of-pocket costs, as several situations entitle one to a total exemption from this contribution.

- Job seekers registered with France Travail are exempt from the flat-rate out-of-pocket expense.
- Beneficiaries of employer or OPCO contributions see the participation neutralized by this co-financing.
- Holders using their professional prevention account, or justifying a work accident or occupational disease with a disability rate of at least 10%, are also exempt.
For all other profiles, the out-of-pocket expense has become a full-fledged budget item. Not anticipating it risks blocking the file at the time of final payment.

CPF Catalog 2026: Eligible Training and Ceilings by Category
The scope of training eligible for financing via the CPF has shrunk. Since February 16, 2025, non-certifying training for business creation or takeover is no longer eligible. This withdrawal affects a segment that represented a significant portion of CPF registrations in previous years.
The refocusing goes further. In 2026, a categorical ceiling limits the amount that can be mobilized depending on the type of certification aimed at:
- Approximately 1,500 euros for certifications from the Specific Directory (languages, office skills, transversal skills).
- Approximately 1,600 euros for skills assessments, which covers the majority of offers but excludes high-end packages.
These ceilings mean that a holder with 4,000 euros in their account will not be able to mobilize everything for a skills assessment billed at 3,000 euros. The surplus remains in the account, usable for another action, but the freedom of choice is mechanically reduced.
Check Eligibility Before Committing
The Mon Compte Formation platform displays whether each training is eligible or not. However, categorical ceilings are not always visible at first glance during the registration process. A useful reflex: check the type of certification (RNCP or Specific Directory) mentioned on the training sheet and cross-reference it with the applicable ceilings.
Insufficient CPF Balance: Concrete Co-Financing Options
When the available balance does not cover the cost of training, the blockage is not permanent. Several complementary mechanisms exist, but they do not all work the same way.
Employer contributions remain the most direct lever. An employee can ask their company to supplement the financing via the platform. The employer then pays the difference, and this co-financing eliminates the flat-rate out-of-pocket expense. Field feedback varies on this point: some companies systematically refuse, while others incorporate CPF contributions into their skills development policy.
France Travail can also finance the out-of-pocket expense for job seekers, subject to conditions related to the professional project. This assistance is not automatic: it requires an exchange with a counselor and validation of the coherence of the training with the return-to-work path.
Personal payment by credit card constitutes the last option. The platform allows for settling the difference between the CPF balance and the training price when validating the file. This supplement adds to the flat-rate out-of-pocket expense of 150 euros.
CPF Registration Process: Problematic Steps
The technical process on Mon Compte Formation is relatively linear: connection via FranceConnect, search for training, validation, payment. The difficulties rarely lie in the navigation itself.
The first friction point concerns digital identity. Since the strengthening of anti-fraud controls, connection must go through FranceConnect+, which requires enhanced identity verification. Holders who have not activated this level of authentication find themselves blocked at the first step.
The second point concerns deadlines. A CPF file validated on the platform imposes a withdrawal period before the actual start of the training. This period, combined with the administrative checks of the training organization, can delay a registration by several weeks. Anticipating at least a month before the desired start date limits unpleasant surprises.
Cold Calling and CPF Scams
The ban on unsolicited cold calling for CPF products came into effect in August 2026. Any call offering to use a CPF balance without prior solicitation from the holder is now illegal. No legitimate organization contacts by phone to offer CPF training. In case of doubt, never share your credentials and report the call on the official platform.

The CPF remains a powerful individual financing tool, but its use in 2026 requires preparation that the previous version of the system did not demand. Checking the eligibility of the training, calculating the actual out-of-pocket expense (flat-rate + any possible supplement), and ensuring that your digital identity is up to date are the three mandatory checkpoints before any registration.
